UK closes in on deal for Brits to use European passport e-gates

Heathrow Passport Control UK officials are close to sealing a deal with the EU to allow UK passport holders to use e-gates across Europe.

It would significantly improve the experience for British traveller facing ‘queues on holiday.’

The e-gates are reserved for nationals of the EU or European Economic Area.

This potential agreement is part of talks ahead of the UK-EU summit in London will UK and European security and defence matters.

“I would love to see you being able to go through the border more quickly in that way. That’s certainly something we’ve been pushing with the EU,” Nick Thomas-Symonds, EU relations minister told Sky News.

Also up for discussion is a youth mobility scheme with Europe.

The new EU entry and exit system is tentatively expected to launch in October although it has already been pushed back several times since 2022.
