The disruption was caused by an equipment outage, the US Federal Aviation Administration said.
The LAX outage also impacted the operation of air traffic coordination systems, the FAA added.
It was a brief halt to both departures and arrivals with mostly short delays.
The system functionality was restored relatively quickly, the airport said.
LAX handles up to 1,500 daily flights and is a major west coast hub for carriers including Delta, United and American Airlines.
It is in the US top three airports by passenger volume.
The FAA hasn’t disclosed many details about the equipment failure.
However, it said it wasn’t down to a cybersecurity issue.
