Gatwick Airport strike called off as new pay deal accepted

Gatwick5 (1) A planned strike at Gatwick Airport has been called off following the acceptance of an improved pay deal.

Baggage screeners employed by contractor ICTS had planned to strike this week.

Unite the union says the action has been called off and workers have accepted the 7% increase in hourly pay, which is backdated from April.

The industrial action was set for 29 August to 2 September.

Unite claims the workers have been among the lowest paid at the airport, earning just over minimum wage.

Gatwick Airport said it is ‘pleased’ the last-minute deal was agreed.
