Eurostar to operate first ever double-decker trains

It plans to order as many as 50 new trains from manufacturer Alstom, worth about €2 billion

Eurostar has made firm orders for 30 Celestia trains, with an option to purchase 20 more.

The first of these trains will be operational by 2031, it said.

They would become the first double-decker high-speed trains through the Channel Tunnel.

Eurostar’s CEO Gwendoline Cazenave said the train order would help grow passenger traffic from 19.5 million last year to 30 million.

The rail operator recently announced plans for new services to Geneva and Frankfurt from London.
