Delta rebrands economy fares

The Basic Economy moniker will go as it revamps its fare structure.

The airline is rebranding its economy fare categories.

Tickets will be sold as ‘Delta Main’ with three distinct fare tiers.

These will be known as Basic, Classic, and Extra which differing benefits.

These changes will take effect from October 1.

Delta Main Basic is effectively a repurposed Basic Economy fare.

With these fares seats are not assigned until check-in, and it has the lowest boarding priority.

The Extra fare includes a seat selection, earlier boarding, and an option to cancel for a refund.

Other changes will see the current Delta Comfort+ become Delta Comfort and First Class will be Delta First.

Premium Select and Delta One business class fares keep their names.

“As we listen and learn about what our customers want, we know that clarity and choice are paramount,” Eric Phillips, Chief Digital Officer.

“Our reimagined fares gives customers more options and flexibility to pick the travel experience that works best for them.”

The airline acknowledged the fare rebrand is effectively a change of names.

“These are naming changes only and do not affect your in-flight experience.”
