Air China flight diverted after battery fire

Airachina An Air China flight had to be diverted after a battery caught fire in a passenger’s hand luggage,

It happened as the plane was heading to Seoul, South Korea.

It was diverted to Shanghai where it landed safely.

“A lithium battery spontaneously ignited in a passenger’s carry-on luggage stored in the overhead bin,” the airline said.

“The crew immediately handled the situation according to procedures, and no one was injured.”

An image published in the media showed flames coming from the overhead bin, leading to visible smoke in the cabin.

There were no reports of anyone requiring medical attention after landing.
