Aer Lingus Manchester cabin crew vote to strike

If it goes ahead, it could lead to disruption for up to 4,000 Northwest travellers.

Unite said 130 Aer Lingus cabin crew in a pay dispute had voted in a ballot to strike.

Unite says they will ‘walk out from October 30 to November 2.’

Aer Lingus offers transatlantic services from Manchester to the Caribbean and the US including New York and Boston.

If the industrial action lasts throughout, it would impact up to 18 flights.

The airline said it will contact passengers ‘with a view to reaccommodating them where possible and minimising the disruption.’

The airline offered a double digit pay increase over two years.

The union said on paper this seems high, but basic pay is so low that the workers are struggling to cover everyday bills and housing.

Unite says they’re paid less than their Irish based colleagues.

“This dispute will no doubt cause disruption to flights, but the blame lies squarely with Aer Lingus for putting profits before people,” Unite said.
